Producing high quality protein is the foundation of many scientific projects. We are proud to have a protein science facility furnished with state-of-the-art equipment coupled with an experienced team of scientists. We have a proven track record of expressing and purifying material across an extensive range of protein classes using innovative target-dependent approaches.

Expression

  • Multiple expression systems: E. coli, yeast, insect, and mammalian cell
  • Co-expression with binding partners
  • Plate-based expressions to assess multiple constructs / mutants in parallel before proceeding to large-scale
  • Bioreactor for control of growth conditions and optimal yield
  • Isotopic labelling (15N, 13C, and 2H)

Purification

  • Over 25 years of experience working with a range of protein classes and difficult to express proteins (intracellular, secreted, kinases, proteases, and protein complexes)
  • Full range of chromatographic purification techniques including Affinity, Ion Exchange (IE), Hydrophobic Interaction (HIC), Reverse-Phase and Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC)
  • State of the art ÄKTA™ chromatography systems, comprised of ÄKTA Pure™ and Avant systems
  • Optimisation of purification processes
  • Site-specific labelling of proteins with e.g. biotin, fluorophores, DBCO
  • Proven record of producing crystallographic-grade protein to enable structure studies
    • > 70 protein targets crystallised
